ISMM Awards 2026 — Call for Nominations

The International Society of Materials Modeling (ISMM) invites nominations for its 2026 awards recognizing excellence, leadership, and service in the materials modeling community. Awardees will be celebrated at the MMM12 Conference Banquet on Wednesday, November 12, 2026.

Fellow of ISMM

Fellow & Senior Fellow

One of the Society’s highest honors, recognizing outstanding and sustained contributions to materials modeling combined with significant service, leadership, mentorship, and community-building. Research excellence alone is not sufficient without community impact.

Key points

  • Typically 7–10 new Fellows per cycle (inaugural class: ~30 Fellows & Senior Fellows)
  • Nominees aged 75+ may be nominated directly as Senior Fellows
  • Nominator must have attended at least one of the previous five MMM conferences
  • Fellows receive life membership in ISMM and a certificate or plaque

Nomination package

  • Citation (≤25 words)
  • Nomination letter (≤2 pages)
  • CV (≤10 pages)
  • Up to 3 supporting letters (≤2 pages each)
  • Statement of service to ISMM/MMM (if not in the letter)
  • At most one participant from the nominee’s own organization

Distinguished Career Award

20+ year career

Honors an individual who has made outstanding, sustained contributions to materials modeling over a distinguished career of twenty years or more, and who remains active in the field at the time of nomination.

Key points

  • Nominator and nominee: attendance at ≥2 of the previous five MMM conferences
  • Current ISMM Board members are not eligible
  • Award: engraved plaque, $1,500, travel, accommodation, and complimentary MMM registration
  • Must be accepted in person at the MMM12 Banquet (Nov 12, 2026)

Early Career Award

4–10 years post-PhD

Recognizes a promising early-career researcher whose work has already made a significant impact in materials modeling — fundamental research, industrial implementation, modeling strategies and tools, or interdisciplinary impact.

Key points

  • 4–10 years from the doctoral degree in the year of nomination
  • Exceptions possible for career interruptions (family, caregiving, military service, medical leave)
  • Award: engraved plaque, $1,500, travel, accommodation, and complimentary MMM registration
  • Must be accepted in person at the MMM12 Banquet (Nov 12, 2026)

ISMM has also announced a call for expressions of interest to organize the 13th International Conference on Multiscale Materials Modeling (MMM13). Details and the full call document will be posted here shortly.

Award decisions are made by the ISMM selection committees and Board of Directors. Committee deliberations are confidential. For questions regarding the awards, please contact ISMM directly.
